Oblivious

It figures. It takes my former law clerk friends and me 3 months to pick a date for dinner - bc yours truly can't get a "free" night in town. We try to go to dinner together every quarter, but lately it's every 6 months. Anyway we pick a night, and they come to me in the city where all the great restaurants are (and b/c they are great friends who know my schedule is the least predictable, and getting to the restaurant in 5 minutes or less is key). But we don't realize until that morning that there's a Wizards playoff game across the street that night. Fortunately the restaurant we choose has seats. Then I go back to work afterwards to pick up my laptop etc, get a call from another mom re: our daughters getting together for a project tomorrow night - and a 1/2 hour later I finally leave the office - at exactly the same time as the game gets out. Thousands of people riding the metro at 9:30 pm. Of all the gin joints in all the world...well at least k didn't have to worry about me riding the metro alone at that hour!!

And the food, the friends and the conversation, as always, was worth the wait. Today we'll start the emails for the next dinner date!
