Oh rugby game - mom ends up volunteering to drive team to field downtown RIGHT NEXT DOOR to airport - we could practically touch the bellies of the planes as they landed overhead. I kid you not.
Text message, "Can we go get icing and stuff at the store? We'll walk." Text back, "But I have confectioner's sugar and you can make icing." Reply txt "No it's too hard to write with."

"Ok just keep in touch."
call to child, "Haven't talked - you guys done? Game running late because of broken leg and bone sticking out and ambulance ride [no not my child] delayed game." "Yes we have made our pie cakes." Pie cakes? Honey did you need to make a pie and didn't know how so you made cakes? No Mom, pie cakes for math class....

So I get home and there are 4 mini cakes in round pans....in honor of PI DAY. Not PIE DAY. Duh mom. 3-14. Pi day. Get it??
PS what happens when you eat black colored icing? You end up with a face only a mother could love.....and if you paint it on your belly upside down you get a smiley face. And pi....
(what's that on his shoulder? Cleat marks from the rugby game....don't ask....)
PSS who noticed I said FOUR pie cakes? the fourth one was uniced - and bitten into. Darned kids. there goes the diet....

I miss pi day at C's old school. We had fun with pi cakes and pi pies. It was just a diversion from the tedium of school.
Wait until they take Chemistry and have Mole day. (If you remember 6.023X10^^23, Avogadro's Number, the number of Atoms/molecules in a "Mole" of an element/compound). That was another fun thing that A did, but C will not because of her new school.
BTW, Mole day usually happens on 10/23.
Isn't mole day on 6-02 at 10:23? Guess it depends on when your kids get out of school, eh?
Oh, and MEH, There weren't 4 cakes. Clearly, "the fourth was uniced and bitten into." Wouldn't that make it 3.14152937... cakes?
When A was in HS, they were out of school on 6-02, so they had mole day in October. For extra credit, the kids had to go to Chemistry class at 6:02 AM and give a talk about "moles". All in good fun.

OK My way too knowledgeable cousins, according to the kids they did not have Mole day b/c they did not know about moles then. They aren't in school in June so it would have to be October. And yes carol p, I totally missed the 3.14 cakes in the house. Leave it to you.

Yep, and pardon the typo in PI. Even my J knows PI to 6 digits and is amazed at the kids in her class who have it memorized to twenty or thirty or more digits.
We don't start school 'til after Labor Day and don't end school until mid-June, so I suppose they could do double-mole day!
Honestly, half the math battle is treating it as a puzzle to be worked out, rather than a chore that has to be done. As with anything, you're probably 100% accurate if you say you can't do it. But really, they're just numbers and symbols. They don't bite...
