Defining "Aggressive"

The Boy had his follow-up appointment 2 weeks after his surgery (inguinal hernia - apparently undiscovered since birth - nothing major). The Dr. gave us instructions 2 weeks ago, "No agressive sports - no contact sports, no football no lacrosse, no snowboarding - for 3 weeks" Ok, no "aggressive" sports. Being 14, about 2 days after surgery, he wanted to sled, which I promptly denied. 2 weeks after surgery he announces he's going out for the baseball team. OK so is baseball aggressive? I'm thinking, "Not." Stand around. Throw a little, hit a little, right? He's only had one tryout. Apparently thank goodness. I thought the Dr was going to have a heart attack. "WHAT???? You RAN??" (since when is running aggressive??!!) We had a pretty funny chat, during which the Dr. explained exactly what he meant by "no aggressive sports or activity." Walking is ok. Shuffleboard is ok. Anything else is not.

No, the boy didn't injure himself in that one day. And he had already told the coach about the recent surgery and how he was supposed to take it easy (which of course he didn't). So tryouts are on hold until this Thursday, when we hit the magical 3 week number.

Ok in hindsight, it was dumb to let him go.

So now we know the meaning of "aggressive." Have we figured out what "is" is yet?

Sigh. I hear ya sista' (ok...cousin!). I got word from the Cadet's Physical Therapist and the Infirmary at school that his knee isn't healing properly...in part because it is a tricky injury, and in part..because he is a fourteen year old boy who doesn't understand the rehab rules (no running, jumping, climbing, kneeling, and on and on). He too is outta baseball tryouts...for a while..and may actually have to bail completely. Our boys. We luv 'em..but...tee hee!

Sorry to hear the Cadet (aka Princess Grace) isn't mending quickly. Knees are such a stinky thing to injure. Snow today cancelled tryouts, giving us one more day to heal. Yippeee!
